BOX AND TRAY FORMING MACHINES
Automatic forming of transport and display packaging
Do you wish to free up manpower from box formation or optimize the turnaround time of your production line?
Orfer manufactures durable automatic box forming machines which form sturdy transport and shelf-ready packaging. The operator feeds flat corrugated cardboard blanks into the machine, and the machine uses them to create a steady flow of ready-made boxes or trays of uniform quality. The packaging can be closed with hot glue or mechanically.
Corrugated cardboard blanks can be filled up in most Orfer’s Formeca box forming machines while the machine is running. The compact units are also suitable for automatic packing as a part of the automation solution for the production line’s end section.
Through our cooperation network, we also supply box forming machines suitable for flap boxes.

What happens in the case of a failure?
The machine stops in a controlled manner in the case of a failure. The machine indicates the failure status by means of a light beacon and on the touchscreen, giving instructions on how to proceed, or by using only a light beacon. After the machine has come to a standstill in a controlled manner, the electric lock of the door will be released, and the failure can be cleared safely. The machine uses a soft start to continue production rapidly, making any unplanned standstills shorter. Orfer also offers the oCare 24/7 remote support service.
Where are Orfer’s box and tray forming machines manufactured?
Orfer’s automation solutions are designed, manufactured and tested in use in Finland. We only use responsible cooperation partners.
Can the language options and user levels of the user interface be modified?
Orfer’s informative user interfaces are available in the required languages. User levels can be modified according to the client’s needs, and certain operations, for example, can be locked for certain users.
How long does it take to change the packaging size?
For a novice, changing the packaging size takes approximately 15–20 minutes, while a more experienced employee can do it in just a few minutes. The machine includes an adjustment mechanism and switching programs for rapid changes.
How are boxes formed by using hot glue?
The machine uses hot glue and the forming tool to form boxes from die cut corrugated cardboard blanks. When the blank is transferred from the blanks magazine loader onto the forming tool, hot glue is sprayed in the glueing flaps. A plunger then folds the blank and forces it into the forming shaft, whereby the flaps are glued into the calibrated form.
How are boxes formed mechanically?
The machine forms the boxes mechanically without glue. The packaging blanks are transferred from the blanks loader magazine into the forming station. The flaps of the blank are folded and forced into the forming shaft, and flap folders close the locking flaps.
Does Orfer also deliver box closing machines?
